During the Napoleonic era British lieutenant-generals normally commanded divisions, although occasionally they also led entire corps. At Waterloo (1815) for example, Lieutenant-General Sir Rowland Hill commanded the 2nd Corps of the Allied Army. One of the division's under Hill's command, the 2nd Division, was led by Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Clinton.
