Telescope used by Lieutenant-General William Carr Beresford, 1800 (c)
Manufactured by Dolland, London.
This telescope was used by Beresford when on active service in India, South America and the Peninsular War (1808-1814). The telescope is inscribed, 'Day and Night' as it has a sliding brass shield to reduce glare and a removable light restrictor to let more light enter the lens on dull days. When fully extended it would have been supported on sticks or over someone's shoulder.
