Major's Cool Weather mess dress jacket, 4th Battalion,The 10th Baluch Regiment, 1938 (c)
Wool cloth with black silk lace, cord and buttons. Tailored by Flights Ltd, London.
This mess jacket was worn by Lieutenant-Colonel Brian Frederick Montgomery (1903-1989), the younger brother of Field Marshal Lord Montgomery, who joined the Indian Army in 1936, being posted to the 10th Baluch Regiment. Reaching the rank of major in August 1940, he became an acting Lieutenant-Colonel in July 1942. Montgomery served in Burma during 1941-1942 and 1946, and in Waziristan in 1947. After leaving the Indian Army he joined the Foreign Service in 1948.
