'Parade of the Scots Fusilier Guards at Buckingham Palace, before Her Majesty the Queen, & His Royal Highness the Prince, March 2nd 1854'

The Honourable Hugh Annesley (born 1831), a lieutenant in the Scots Fusilier Guards described the scene thus: 'When we got in front of Buckingham Palace the Regiment halted in line, the officers came to the front, the colours were lowered, and the whole presented arms. Her Majesty, the Prince, and the Royal children, appeared on the balcony and acknowledged the salute, then the Colonel turned to the men, waved his sword, and a thousand voices gave three hearty hurrahs for their Majesties, waving their bearskin caps in the air and by every gesture manifesting the most intense enthusiasm and loyalty. Her Majesty appeared much affected, and bowed and smiled most graciously on her gallant third Regiment of Guards.'
