A Bangash (Pathan) of the 25th Cavalry (Frontier Force), 1907
Watercolour by Major Alfred Crowdy Lovett (1862-1919), 1907.
A mounted sowar (cavalryman) of the 25th Cavalry advances at trotting pace with drawn sword. He is dressed in khaki fatigues and has a carbine holstered in his saddle. The Bangashes were a small tribe of Pathans from the Kohat district of the North West Frontier Province.
This is the original artwork for an illustration in Major G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
