Watercolour by Major Alfred Crowdy Lovett (1862-1919), 1908.

A subadar was the equivalent Indian Army rank to a British captain. The individual depicted is from the 35th Sikhs, a regiment raised in 1887. He wears a red tunic, yellow and red cummerbund and a yellow and red turban.
