Maharao Sir Umed Singh Bahadur was ruler of the Indian Princely State of Kotah in Rajasthan between 1889 and 1940. He is shown wearing the uniform of the 42nd Deoli Regiment, an infantry unit raised in 1903 from the old Deoli Irregular Force.
This is the original artwork for an illustration in Major G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
