4th Gurkha Rifles fighting a 'Rear-Guard Action', 1908 (c)

A company of the 4th Gurkhas in action against a backdrop of the rocky landscape of the North West Frontier. A medical orderly can be seen at the rear of the firing line. The Gurkhas are armed with Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifles.
This is the original artwork for an illustration in Major G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
