Study of head and shoulders of a sepoy of the 10th Jats.
Originally formed as the 10th Bengal Native Infantry in 1861, it was renamed the 10th Jats in 1903. The regiment served in the 2nd China War (1856-1860); the 3rd Burma War (1885-1887) and in the Mesopotamia campaign during World War One (1914-1918).
The original for the illustration on p160 of G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
