6th King Edward's Own Cavalry, 1908

Raised as the 8th Irregular Cavalry at Fatehgarh by Lieutenant W H Ryves in 1842, the regiment was designated the 6th Cavalry in 1861. The Regiment served in the Egyptian War of 1882 and were deployed on the Western Front in World War One in 1914. They returned to Egypt in 1918, serving in Palestine as part of the 22nd Mounted Brigade. The Regiment was eventually amalgamated with the 7th Hariana Lancers, becoming the 18th King Edward's Own Cavalry in 1922.
