A British officer inspects dismounted sowars of the Quarter Guard. The five men were responsible for the security of the regiment's accommodation quarters. In the 1900s the 10th Duke of Cambridge's Own Lancers (Hodson's Horse) were stationed at Nowshera cantonment in North West Frontier Province.
This is the original artwork for an illustration in Major G F MacMunn's 'Armies of India', published in 1911.
