Captain Gough's Troop, 9th Lancers, 1880

Group photograph of officers and men of the 9th Lancers 9th (Queen's Royal) Lancers standing in front of a building on which is fixed a sign inscribed, 'Cabul 1880', with the insignia of the unit below. Two officers are named in the caption, Lieutenant J Trower and Captain B Gough.

Captain (later Lieutenant-Colonel) Bloomfield Gough was the son of General Sir John Bloomfield Gough (1804-1891). Gough transferred from the Rifle Brigade to the 9th (Queen's Royal) Lancers in 1873.
