'Meet of the Ooty Hunt at Snowdon', 1885 (c)
Photograph by John Burke, India, 1885 (c).
Hunting was very popular in Indian Army units. It was conducted on some large stations such as Ooty (Ootacamund) on the same lines as fox hunting in England, though the quarry was more often a jackal.
From an album of 89 photographs by John Burke, compiled by Major General Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1881-1893 and dealing with his career.
