14th (The Ferozepore) Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry training at Panipal, 1883 (c)

Photograph, India, 1883 (c).

Raised at Ferozepore in 1846 as an irregular battalion, and recruited chiefly from personnel of the defeated Sikh army, the Khalsa, the 14th went on to serve with distinction during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859), on the North West Frontier of India and in the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880).
