Officer's pouch, 5th Regiment of Cavalry, Punjab Irregular Force, 1855 (c)
Owing to conflict on the Punjab-Waziristan border, in 1849 five regiments of cavalry and five battalions of infantry were raised. These combined with four battalions of Sikh infantry, raised in 1856, to form the Punjab Irregular Force in 1851. This Frontier Force was under the control of the Lieutenant-Governor of the Punjab, but in 1886 was placed directly under the Commander-in-Chief, India as part of the Bengal Army.
