Statuette, 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot, 1745
Silver by Walker and Hall, hallmarked Sheffield, 1910-1911.
Full length figurine of a Private, 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot, with right hand on pouch and left hand holding musket over left shoulder. The figurine stands on a black plinth with the date, '1745', in silver, with an inscribed plaque.
From 1718 to 1745, the regiment was stationed on Minorca, and briefly in Flanders, before returning to Britain in the aftermath of the 2nd Jacobite Rebellion (1745-1746).
The figurine was donated to the officers of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment by Captains W W Mellor, C J Burke, and F O Bowen in 1911.
