Pelisse, Lieutenant-Colonel John Tritton, 10th (The Prince of Wales's Own) Royal Regiment of Light Dragoons (Hussars), 1849 (c)

Both officers and men of hussar regiments wore the pelisse, or over jacket, which reflected the Hungarian origins of the hussar's style of dress. To enable the pelisse to be worn over the left shoulder, there was a yellow cord loop fitted at the collar.

John Tritton was born in 1796 and served in India with the 24th Regiment of (Light) Dragoons, the 11th Light Dragoons and the 3rd (or King's Own) Dragoons, before he joined the 10th (The Prince of Wales's Own) Royal Regiment of Light Dragoons (Hussars). He served in a number of campaigns in India including the 3rd Maratha War (1816-1819), the 1st Afghan War (1838-1842) and the 1st Sikh War (1845-1846). Soon after his retirement, Tritton, having survived bloody battles including Moodkee and Sobroan, died on 8 February 1854 following a serious carriage accident a month earlier.
