Silver centrepiece by Stephen Smith and William Nicholson, hallmarked London, 1854

This candelabrum is in the form of a coconut palm with a mounted cavalryman below. The whole design sits on a base with an inscription supported by elephant heads. It was presented by the native officers of the Hyderabad Contingent cavalry to Captain Charles McLeod on his retirement in 1853. McLeod joined the Contingent as a lieutenant in October 1825.
