Watercolour on Oriental paper, by a Nepalese artist, 1865 (c).
After the Gurkha (Nepal) War (1814-1816), the British started to recruit Gurkhas for the Bengal Army. In turn, the Nepalese Army adapted following the war. Here the Nepalese soldiers wear European-style uniforms. This painting has been varnished, and the varnish has turned yellow over time.
