Single shot Martini Henry .303 inch breech-loading pistol used by North West Frontier tribesmen, 1900 (c)
This strange hybrid of British technology and border improvisation is a unique product of the North West Frontier. A British Martini Henry rifle from about 1900 has been sawn off and cut down to make a pistol. To the fiercely independent tribes in the mountains between Afghanistan and British India, the best efforts of British gunsmiths meant as little as those of British policymakers.
