Oil on canvas by Edward Matthew Hale (1852-1924), 1898.
Like most cavalry regiments, the 16th Lancers deployed to South Africa in 1899 serving there until their eventual return to England in 1904. After service in the First World War, the regiment was amalgamated with the 5th Royal Irish Lancers to form the 16th/5th The Queen's Royal Lancers.
