Statuette of a havildar, 5th Mahratta Light Infantry, 1957

Silver statuette by Barton, 1957.

One of the plaques on the base explains that the statuette is a replica of a statuette presented by the 5th (Royal) Mahrattas to Lieutenant-General Sir Walter Sinclair Delamain (1862-1932) on his 'Vacating the appointment of Colonel of that Battalion'. It relates that Delamain died before taking receipt of the statuette and that it was returned by Lady Delamain to the unit 'to be kept as a memory of her late husband'.
