Japanese flag captured by 1/1st Punjab Regiment during the Burma campaign, 1944 (c)
The 1st Punjab Regiment was part of the 5th Indian Infantry Division which fought in the Battle of Kohima (1944). The 1st Battalion 1st Punjab Regiment were the leading troops who broke through the Japanese siege to relieve the Allied garrison. This captured flag was presented by the 1st Battalion to General Sir Claude Auchinleck who was Commander-in-Chief, India during the Burma campaign.
