60 Squadron, Royal Air Force, reformed in 1920 in Lahore, and saw considerable action on the North West Frontier of India. To mark this service the head of a markhor, a type of wild mountain goat which frequents the famous Khyber Pass, was adopted as the squadron crest. The Westland Wapiti, a two seat general purpose biplane entered service with the RAF in 1928.
