Officer's Trial Pattern helmet, 87th (Royal Irish Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot, 1854 (c)
This helmet is made of enamelled felt and is of a shape that was recommended for both infantry and cavalry, the latter version being of leather with a Maltese cross-shaped plate. Other recommendations included a detachable metal plate back neck protector. Neither the infantry or cavalry versions were adopted.
