Snake-in-a-box toy, 1902 (c)
Wood, made by Boer prisoners of war during the Boer War (1899-1902).
One of a pair of toys, carved in the shape of a lady's shoe with a top panel which slides back pulling out a hinged snake with a spike in its mouth which strikes the thumb of the opener.
