Postcard written by Major Robin (Robert) Burnett, 89th Punjabis, to his wife, 30 March 1915
Burnett writes on the reverse, 'Keep this card in the family archives as a relic of the war. This is the card they give the French Army to write on and go post free'.
Robert Francis Day Burnett was born in 1882 and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in 1901. Burnett transferred to the Indian Army in 1904 and rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He was awarded the Military Cross during World War One (1914-1918). He served with the 89th Punjabis in Mesopotamia. Burnett retired from the Army in 1931.
