Shoulder belt plate, 50th (The West Kent) Regiment of Foot, 1809 (c)
This regiment was raised in 1755 and in 1782, when the line infantry regiments were given county names to assist with recruiting, the 50th was given West Kent. The motto of the unit was 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense', which translates as 'Shame on Him Who Thinks This Evil'.
