Field Officer of Line Infantry, 1800
Miniature portrait in watercolour on ivory, indistinctly signed in monogram and dated lower right by Horace Hone (1754-1825), 1800. The portrait is set in a gold-mounted frame with a suspension loop at the top. The reverse set with a glazed oval holding four sections of hair woven together, surrounded by a border of blue enamel and a row of brilliants.
Horace Hone was the son of the portraitist and miniature painter Nathaniel Hone. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts from 1772 and was elected an ARA in 1779. In 1795, Hone was appointed Miniature Painter to HRH the Prince of Wales (later King George IV).
