Silver presentation bugle, 1901

This bugle was presented to the mess of 4th Battalion The Manchester Regiment by Lieutenant-Col L L Steele on 1 April 1901. It was manufactured by George Potter and Co, of Aldershot.

Items such as this were often donated by officers when they joined or left the regiment, although objects were sometimes given when an officer married, for victory celebrations or as a forfeit for losing a bet or sporting contest.
