King's Colour, 2nd Battalion, 17th Dogra Regiment, 1926-1947 (c)
In British and Indian infantry units the King's or Queen's Colour was a reminder to all ranks of their loyalty and duty to their sovereign. It usually consisted of a union flag trimmed with gold fabric, and with the regiment's insignia placed in the centre.
This example was the last Colour issued to the regiment, which had been formed in 1922 after the union of the 37th (Prince of Wales's Own) Dogras, the 38th Dogras and 41st Dogras. In 1947 the 17th Dogras were allocated to India on partition and independence.
