Army Gold Medal for Salamanca, 1812, awarded to Colonel Thomas Lloyd, 94th Regiment of Foot
This award of the smaller type awarded to field officers, those above the rank of captain and below the rank of major-general, also has clasps for Vittoria and Nivelle, where Lloyd was killed on 10 November 1813. He had served in the 94th since October 1810, having previously served with the 54th and 43rd Regiments. The Battle of Salamanca was a turning point in the Peninsular War (1808-1814). From then on Wellington generally had the initiative in Spain.
