Stole worn by Father Francis Gleeson, 1914 (c)
Gleeson was Roman Catholic Chaplain to 2nd Battalion The Royal Munster Fusiliers. A Dubliner, he volunteered for service on the outbreak of war in 1914. He wore this stole at the famous general absolution of the Munsters at Rue de Bois on 8 May 1915. The absolution was later the subject of a painting by Fortunino Matania.
