Officer's smoothbore percussion pistol, 1850 (c)
Made by Parker Field and Sons, High Holborn, London. Details of the manufacturer are engraved on the lock plate and the top of the barrel.
Sergeant Joseph Wickstead purchased this smoothbore percussion pistol privately prior to the Crimean War (1854-1856). Wickstead served with the 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) Dragoon Guards during the campaign and took part in the Charge of the Heavy Brigade at the Battle of Balaklava on 25 October 1854.
