Coatee, worn by Lord William Harris, Army Staff, 1829-1830

Scarlet wool coatee with gilt buttons.

William George Harris (1782-1845) fought with the 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot at Seringapatam during the 4th Mysore War (1799). As a lieutenant general, he commanded the 73rd Regiment of Foot at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. William George became 2nd Baron Harris on the death of his father General George Harris in 1829. From 1832 to 1836 he was Colonel of the 86th (Royal County Down) Regiment of Foot. From 1835 until his death in 1845, Harris held the colonelcy of the 73rd Regiment of Foot.
