A Jemadar of Indian Cavalry, 1938 (c)

Head and shoulders portrait of an unidentified jemadar of an unidentified Indian cavalry regiment.

The artist, Major David de Symons Barrow, Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey), was the son of General Sir George de Symons Barrow who commanded the 4th Cavalry Division during World War One (1914-1918). David Barrow was awarded the Military Cross but was killed in action, serving with 2nd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment, in Normandy on 21 June 1944.
