Light Infantry, 1791 (c)

Watercolour, probably the original by Henry Bunbury for the coloured stipple engraving by Francois Soiron, published by Thomas Macklin, London, 20 July 1791.

From antiquity armies have included light infantry used to skirmish ahead of the main body of an army, disrupting and delaying the advance of enemy formations.
