Defensive position of 'C' Company, 3rd Battalion, 9th Jat Regiment, in Waziristan, 1923

This Indian soldier is armed with a Short Magazine Lee Enfield Rifle and a Lewis machine-gun. These were the main infantry weapons for the British and Indian Armies in the First World War and most of the inter-war period.
