Photograph, India, North West Frontier, 1923.
Indian soldiers rest from duty guarding a road in Waziristan. They sit in a sangar, a temporary fortified position with a breastwork made of stone. The battalion (formerly the 10th Jats) moved into Waziristan in 1923 to help guard communication routes in this unstable area of the North West Frontier.
From an album of 154 photographs compiled by T M Layng, 10th Jats, India, North West Frontier, 1923-1924.
