(Light) Cavalry (Jemadar), Madras Army, 1841

One of 15 coloured lithographs, drawn and coloured by William Hunsley. No. 10 in the series 'Costumes of the Madras Army', printed by William Porter.

A jemadar was the Indian rank equivalent to a British second-lieutenant. In 1841 there were eight regiments of light cavalry on the strength in the East India Company's Madras Army.
