Sergeant's full dress tunic, Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), pattern 1881-1902

This pattern of tunic was introduced in 1881. The old 'facing' colours of the Army's infantry regiments were standardised to white for English regiments, green for Irish regiments and blue for 'Royal' Regiments as shown here. This proved unpopular with a number of regiments who wished to retain their original colour facings., which were gradually reintroduced for some regiments.

The tunics were designed so that the facing colours could be easily changed. The simple cuff design on this tunic was referred to as the 'jam pot' cuff. They were replaced by a new design of tunic in 1902.
