Pewter and glass tankard owned by Ensign (later Lieutenant-Colonel) Frederick William Nicolay, 1866 (c)
This tankard is inscribed with the names of locations in which the owner served. Nicolay joined the 107th (Bengal Infantry) Regiment in 1861. Until the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) this regiment had been on the East India Company Bengal Establishment as the 3rd Bengal European Regiment. It became the 107th on the British Establishment in 1861. Nicolay later became a lieutenant in the Bengal Staff Corps in 1866 and rose to command 2nd Battalion, The 2nd (The Prince of Wales's Own) Gurkha Regiment (The Sirmoor Rifles), before retiring in 1892.
