French shako plate, Waterloo battlefield, 1815

From a collection of items found on the battlefield of Waterloo by John Gage, 25 June 1815.

This brass shako plate in the form of an eagle with an imperial crown was retrieved from the Waterloo battlefield. Contemporary prints show locals selling souvenirs to sightseers visiting the battlefield south of Brussels.
