Silver plated, made by Benjamin Smith, hallmarked London 1840-41.
This meat dish is from the mess plate of the 1st Madras European Regiment. Having been given the honorific title 'Fusiliers' in 1843, when the regiment became part of the British Army in 1861 it was styled the 102nd (Royal Madras) Fusiliers. This was perpetuated after 1881 when it became the 1st Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers, which was disbanded in 1922.
