Drummer's coat, 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, 1780 (c)
Drummers wore a more ornate coat than that of the regular soldiers. As signallers they had to be easily identifiable by their officers in the middle of battle. The special pattern lace or braid was introduced in 1771.
