Coatee worn by Major Bruce Boswell, 2nd Bengal Native Infantry, 1844 (c)
Scarlet wool cloth with yellow wool facings and gilt buttons.
Born in Edinburgh in 1805, Bruce Boswell became a cadet in 1820. He arrived in India in September 1821. He served with the 2nd Bengal Native Infantry in the 1st Burma War (1824-1826) and in the Arakan in 1825. Boswell married Anne Tronson in Dinapore in 1831. Boswell was awarded the rank of major on 1 January 1943. He was invalided on 4 October 1844, and retired on 4 July 1849. He died in Edinburgh in 1855.
