Polo team with trophies, 1890 (c)
Photograph, India, 1890 (c).
Polo was popular with British and Indian cavalry and infantry regiments alike. Though participation in the sport always remained less expensive in India than Britain, by the 1920s it was recommended that regimental polo funds should be instituted to enable even junior British and Indian subalterns to play the game without getting into debt.
From an album of 62 photographs compiled by an officer of the 40th Pathans, 1890 (c).
