Pair of spurs worn by Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Picton at the Battle of Waterloo, 1815
Picton commanded the 5th Infantry Division at Waterloo but was killed by a musket ball to the temple. A tough, plain-speaking and eccentric Welshman, he fought the engagement wearing civilian clothes and a top hat and was often seen with a stick or umbrella on the battlefield.
