Indian Army Meritorious Service Medal awarded to Colour Havildar Kassim Khan, 3rd Battalion, 151st Punjabi Rifles
Silver medal with the crowned head of King George V with the inscription, 'Georgivs V Kaisar-i-Hind'; on the reverse, a laurel wreath encircling the inscription, 'India', with a further ring of foliage encircling the inscription, 'For Meritorious Service', suspended by a crimson ribbon with three white vertical stripes.
Instituted in 1888 the medal was awarded with an annuity to Indian warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers for 18 years' exceptionally meritorious service. The ribbon was plain crimson until 1917, when three white stripes were added. Initially only one medal was allocated to each regiment and thereafter awards could only be made on the death, promotion or reduction of existing recipients.
