Russian infantry ammunition pouch, 1854 (c)
This Russian leather pouch collected during the Crimean War (1854-1856)is decorated with a brass grenade badge, which is likely to indicate a Fusilier regiment. The pouch would be carried slung by a cross belt over the left shoulder and would normally contain 40 paper wrapped cartridges fitted in a drilled wooden block. A tool pouch, which contained a screwdriver and cleaning rags, would have been sewn on the front of the pouch.
